Who am I?

My name is Melanie Daetwyler. I am a Dutch/Swiss qualified physiotherapist (BSc) with a Masters degree in Evidence Based Manual Therapy (EBMT). I have over 9 years experience in my field & have completed courses in Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), Trigger-point therapy & Kinesio-taping. 

Where did I study?

I completed my Bachelor & Master degrees at the University College Thim van der Laan in Switzerland (GR).

I am registered Physiotherapist in the Netherlands (NL), Switzerland (Swiss– Red Cross), & in Sri Lanka

(Sri Lankan Medical Council No.C0543).

Where have I worked?

  • Internship at Medichecks Colombo (Private) Ltd. under the supervision of Mr. B. Samarasinghe (Chartered Physiotherapist), Sri Lanka.

  • District hospital in Affoltern a.A, Switzerland (Geriatric rehabilitation).

  • Private clinic Reha-Prime Physiotherapie in Zurich, Switzerland.

  • Private clinic Physiotherapie Letzigrund in Zurich, Switzerland.

  • Private clinic Tandem Physio & Training in Landquart, Switzerland.

  • Owner of Mel the Physio Physiotherapy Clinic in Sri Lanka since 2014.

Who have I helped?

  • People from all walks of life.

  • Orthopedic patients with acute and/or chronic ailments.

  • Professional athletes such as boxers, footballers, basketball players, cross country skiers, track & field athletes, swimmers, ice hockey players, rugby players, surfers & cricketers with sports injuries.

  • Rehabilitation of patients after traumas, accidents & pre-/post operations.

  • Assessment & analysis of technique & biomechanics in different sports for adults & children. (Running, swimming, surfing, cricket, golf, tennis & martial arts etc.)

  • Neurological patients with illnesses such as Parkinson’s disease, Multiple sclerosis & Guillain–Barré syndrome.

  • Children who have problems with their gait (Pigeon toed, tip toed walking) or core strength (learning to crawl & walk, & suffering from Cerebral Palsy.

What makes me different?

​Since my youth I have been very active & drawn to sports like swimming, basketball, skiing & athletics. I was the captain of the basketball team in my final year of school at the Elizabeth Moir International School in Colombo, Sri Lanka. I also participated in inter-school & international school swimming, athletics & basketball competitions throughout my schooling days. 

My sports experience has significantly helped me with my profession as a physiotherapist. 

I am a “Hands on” physiotherapist & am very passionate about my job!

Movement is life & life is movement!

My goal is to enable this in all my patients.
